Tana Delta Brochure

The exhibition «Tana Delta: a wetland in the balance » was prepared by scientists from the UMR 208 “Local heritage“ of the IRD (www. Paloc.ird.fr) and the ‘new partner team’ KENWEB Kenyan Wetlands Biodiversity Research Team (http://kenweb.museums.or.ke/). It consists in 85 photographs of 20*30 inch format (50,80 cm x 76,20 cm) taken by the researchers in the field and some portraits by the professional photographer David Beatty. The exhibition also includes captions, posters and maps in French and English, several objects representing fishing, livestock keeping and agricultural activities of the Tana Delta, and a 25 minute documentary by the filmmaker Khamis Ramadhan, featuring water management issues in the Tana Delta and solutions that KENWEB, a multidisciplinary French and Kenyan research team proposes regarding these issues.

The exhibition was supported by UMR 208 of IRD’s “Local Heritage unit”, the French Institute, the Information and Culture Department of the IRD, the “Water and Land” programme of the French ministry of the Environment, the IRD representation in Kenya, the French Institute of Research in Africa, the French Embassy and the National Museums of Kenya.
